What Spirit Teahouse has meant to me.

It’s now July, and Spirit Teahouse has a full 6 months of work.

I have been exploring different kinds of music (sometimes oldies, sometimes chinese pop, sometimes english pop, japanese pop etc) and different ways to express (guzheng, bass guitar, keyboards, singing? some acting?), and I am very very fortunate to be able to do this, and take on another “job” besides being a housewife.

For the past months, not only do I learn alot by exploring, reading up and learning from the internet and the nearby library which keeps my brain very active; I find that this gives me a sense of accomplishment aside from housework, which is very healthy. It has been a steep learning curve not only for these things, but I also have personal growth, learning how to manage my time and responsibilities. It pushes me to learn about what is current in the world outside of my sheltered life as a housewife.

And now after a few months, I have a collection of music videos, and this gave me the courage to join a special musicians bible-study group, and I really enjoy learning from them and the friendship we have as Brothers and Sisters in Christ. Before, I had no courage to join these musicians for bible study because I had not put in effort to be active in music myself. The people I know in NY are mostly my husband’s friends. They are not really in to music. But now that I have a “portfolio” of youtube music videos… Not only do I feel confident in joining the musicians group, I also find that I can identify with their thoughts and their journey in life. Therefore now I get to make my own friends, in addition to my husband’s friends. This is where I see true value of doing Spirit Teahouse by Seren Koo.

Here is some updates on Spirit Teahouse as of now 20th June 2010 (this may increase or decrease over time)
- Started since Jan 1st 2010 (6 months)

- Gathered 66 subscribers on Youtube

- Gathered 124 ‘Likes’ on Facebook, 22 of which are my friends

I have some “free” Serenkoo merchandise, which is a cap with words and my website on it, and a canvas tote bag with words and my website on it also. So far it is not for sale, but it can only be requested for.

I have given away 2 caps, 1 to a friend in Singapore, 1 to a girl in Switzerland who requested for it. And in another bible study group ronald and I go to, I had 2 requests for a bag too. I gave one to a girl, and designed a more masculine one to a guy. The guy insisted that he paid me for the bag even though I meant to give these out for free. Hehehe…If people are carrying a bag or wearing a cap advertising Serenkoo.com for me, how can I make them pay? Here’s a picture of him carrying the Serenkoo bag.

Regarding my fundraising (or birthday gift), my loving parents-in-law have donated US$20 in godaddy giftcards. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pF7mlM0GQxg and/or http://serenkoo.com/support if you don’t know what I’m talking about. I am so grateful to them they have been the most supportive and they participate in my journey by watching every video. My level of music is not very good, and my videos are still very DIY, but their love and support has been TOP NOTCH.

That has been the greatest gift of all, discovering who supports me. I can’t be more humbled because I know it is possible to have zero supporters. Thank all of you who have subscribed and commented. I still have another half a year to go before my 2010 Series ends. Wish me luck!

Love, Seren
